Portent Aviation Weather provides current (METAR) and forecast (TAF) weather conditions for your custom lists of stations for flight briefing purposes.
Portent retrieves recent and upcoming aviation weather conditions and displays them in a convenient and easy-to-interpret format.
The app is fully functioning for free during the 30-day trial period.
Portent Aviation Weather was developed by the original creators of the Aviation Digital Data Service (ADDS).Features:- current (METAR) and forecast (TAF) weather conditions- worldwide database of reporting locations- primary flight conditions (VFR, MVFR, IFR, LIFR) at-a-glance- user-customized lists of stations- full text METAR/TAF available- user-friendly display of clouds, visibility, winds, and weather- current Zulu, or Universal Coordinated Time, along with the age of the report(s)
Quick Guide:- Upon installation, the app will produce a default list of nearby stations based on device latitude/longitude.- The primary "Portent" panel shows the default station list data, METARs on left, first future time of TAFs to the right, and a simple color-code for flight conditions at future times (TAF-based).- Tap any station to switch to the detailed station view containing the most-recent METAR reported.- Swipe to left/right in order to switch to past METAR reports or to the future TAF forecast.- Tap the airport tower icon to switch to the next station in the overall list; or tap-hold this button to see the full list of station in the active group.- The tablet app shows the overview and detailed station view simultaneously.
Editing custom station lists:- Tap the edit (pencil) button to view the "Station Group" panel and subsequently tap the name of the list you wish to edit.- From the "Edit Station Group" panel, drag any station up or down in the list using the small box on the left edge, or delete a station from the list using the (...) button on the right edge.- Tap the (+) button to enter one or more new station(s) using its 4-letter ICAO identifier; separate multiple using a space or comma.- Tap the (+) button from the "Station Group" panel to create a new, named station group; or tap the (...) button on a group name to rename, delete, or set it as the active list of stations to display.
Known Issues:- Some international TAFs are coded very differently than those in North America and TEMPO/PROB conditions may not display correctly.
This is a known deficiency we are working to resolve.- Primarily imperial units are displayed, but a future release may support customized units.
Weather data are collected from United States government sources that are very reliable but cannot be guaranteed to be available at all times.
Portent Aviation Weather is for pre-flight purposes only and should not be used in flight.
Worldwide, there are many sites that report current (METAR) data, but do not have official TAFs.
